This week, returning guest Theo (whose film review webseries Twin Cinema will be coming soon to the Alcohollywood Youtube Channel!) joins us to disassemble the cinematic mind screw that is Shinya Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo the Iron Man! Somewhere between the surrealism of Lynch and the body horror of Cronenberg, Tetsuo follows a terrified salaryman as his body is slowly supplanted with strange metal growths. We chat about the film’s striking 16mm photography, the surrealist plot, and drill-dos, while giving you our custom cocktail and drinking rules. Check it out!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: Mr. Roboto
A variant of the Rusty Nail (natch), we switched out the Scotch and Drambuie for Suntory whiskey, and threw in a little peach puree and lemon to give it an extra bit of kick.
3 parts Suntory Japanese whiskey
1 part Returner Earl Grey liqueur
1 part peach puree
splash, lemon juice
Shake thoroughly in shaker with ice, then pour over ice in an old-fashioned glass.
DRINKING RULES FOR TETSUO THE IRON MAN:
1) Drink every time a character actually speaks
2) Drink any time a new metal growth appears on Tetsuo
3) Drink whenever the characters travel in fast stop-motion sequences
FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:
The Metal Fetishist says, “Our love can put an end to this fucking world. Let’s go!”
