It’s that time of year again, listeners – HORROR OCTORBOR! For our fourth installment of our annual dive into the depths of hell, we’re taking on all foreign-language horror, starting with 2008’s Swedish vampire masterpiece Let the Right One In! Matt K of fellow Chicago film podcast CinemaJaw joins us to talk about a smartly directed tale of a young outcast boy making the most unusual of friends in vampire Eli in 1980s Sweden. Check it out on Netflix and give our recap a listen, along with our custom cocktail and drinking rules!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: Wash the Right One Down
For this devilishly bloody beverage, we took inspiration from the film’s Stockholm location and used Swedish punsch (a traditional Swedish liqueur) as the base. With the white apple brandy, demerara and cranberry, the sweetness of the punsch is balanced with some tartness. We also added a splash of Coke for color and flavor.
1 part Swedish punsch
1 part white apple brandy
dash, BLAAHHDD orange bitters
splash, Coca-Cola
1 part fresh cranberry juice
1 tbsp demerara syrup
- Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice, mix until combined.
- Strain into Some Kind of Goblet and enjoy with some Swedish rock tunes.
DRINKING RULES FOR LET THE RIGHT ONE IN:
- Whenever you see shots of characters/ people through windows
- Every time you see a new shot of blood
- Any time you see another particularly kickin’ Swedish sweater
FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:
Oskar taps Morse Code to Eli at the end.
