Happy New Year, listeners! We’re ringing in 2017 (along with Mercy Street’s Danielle Stack) with 2016’s critically acclaimed The Edge of Seventeen, the John Hughes-flavored coming-of-age comedy starring Hailee Steinfeld as a particularly surly teenager navigating the rocky waters of adolescence, with occasional help from her take-no-prisoners teacher (played with cynical perfection by Woody Harrelson). Enjoy along with our custom cocktail and drinking rules!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: The Petland Stockroom
We made a nice, light drink for the new year, exactly the kind of thing an angsty teen with access to her father’s liquor cabinet would come up with.
2 parts gin
1 part St. Germain elderflower liqueur
3 parts lemon-flavored LaCroix sparkling water
2-3 drops, grand poppy tincture
twist of lemon
Combine in a big ol’ cocktail glass with ice and serve.
DRINKING RULES FOR THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN:
- Every time Nadine (or another character) lashes out with a nasty insult or putdown
- Whenever a new song shows up on the soundtrack
- Each long, awkward pause between Nadine and Erwin
FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:
Nadine says, “A strange part of me likes thinking I’m the only one with problems.”
We’re taking January off of regular episodes, but Alcohollywood On Tap and Twin Cinema will continue every Friday. In the meantime, we’ll start putting out the first four parts of Indiana Jones and the Monkey King in lieu of normal podcasts, which will keep going after we come back in February!
