Saddle up, pardners; Marshall of our sister show Twin Cinema joins us this week to talk about the classic 1961 Western The Magnificent Seven! A remake of Akira Kurosawa’s seminal Seven Samurai, the John Sturges-helmed remake follows a ragtag group of outlaws (Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, James Coburn, and more) hired to defend a meek village from some evil Mexican banditos. Along the way, we share our custom cocktail and drinking rules!
(Thanks to our sponsor Field Notes as part of the Chicago Podcast Coop!)
DRINKING RULES FOR THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN:
- Whenever there’s a long shot of a landscape or vista
- Any time you hear the word ‘corn’ or ‘maize’
- Every time a character sits down on something that is not a chair
FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:
Yul Brynner says, “Only the farmers won. We lost. We always lose.”
Join us next week as we get comfortably numb with the psychedelic prog-rock art film Pink Floyd: The Wall!
