This week, we see into the future with Ryan Bond of Our Fair City and Geek Bar Chicago as we dive into the convoluted world of David Lynch’s 1984 flick Dune! Because our listeners demanded, Jared and I watched the three-hour-long Alan Smithee cut of this adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert – somehow, this complex tale of political intrigue and religious prophecy 10,000 years in the future was both too complex and too over-explained. Still, we get into some great discussion of the ins and outs of this fairly divisive and ambitious cult film, so check out the episode, drinking game and custom cocktail below!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: The Weirding Way
The booze must flow in this spicy, autumnal drink as otherworldly and strange as Arrakis itself. Spiced rum, cream, and spiced fruit flavors combine to create a refreshingly tart cocktail suitable for any self-respecting superbeing.
2 parts spiced rum
1 part orange liqueur (e.g. Grand Marnier)
1 tbsp apple butter
2 parts apricot nectar
1 part cream
dash, nutmeg
Combine into shaker with ice; shake vigorously. Pour into rocks glass and garnish with marashino cherry. Garnish with nutmeg.
DRINKING RULES FOR DUNE:
- Whenever a character’s internal monologue is heard in voiceover
- Every time Paul is referred to as something other than Paul (“Usul,” “Muad’Dib,” “Kwisatz Haderach”)
- Any time you see phallic objects/creatures (the worm, the Navigators, hunter-seekers, etc.)
