This week on Alcohollywood, Grant of Chip & Ironicus fame joins us to talk the 1986 John Carpenter cult classic Big Trouble in Little China! THRILL as Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) wryly smirks his way through a rescue mission in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown, oblivious to his role as the film’s sidekick! GASP as mystical Raidens and old mascara-d ghost-men kidnap green-eyed girls for demonic rituals involving mall escalators! We chat about all this and more, so give us a listen and check out our custom cocktail and drinking rules!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: The Needle of Love
In search of the most Chinese-inspired ingredients available, we based a drink around the Chinese vodka baijiu, the French liqueur China-China, and a shock of fruit flavors to help guide you through this Asian adventure like a Wang to your perplexed Jack Burton.
1 part baijiu (sub with vodka if you can’t find it)
1 part China-China
dash, cranberry syrup
splash, orange juice
4 parts soda water
- To make cranberry syrup: combine equal parts cranberry juice and brown sugar in a saucepan and heat until dissolved. Cool and store.
- To make the drink: Combine baijiu, China-China, syrup and orange juice in a shaker with ice and stir.
- Pour into rocks glass and top with soda water.
DRINKING RULES FOR BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA:
- “Jacksplanations” (whenever Jack has to stop everything to ask what’s going on)
- Whenever Jack Burton gets hurt, whether by others or his own hand
- Any time you see critters (the sasquatch-thing, the Beholder, etc.)
FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:
Jack Burton confidently boasts, “If I’m not back by dawn…call the President.“
